Establishment of the University
The university was licensed by Resolution No. (601) of the year (1991) from the Ministry of Higher Education in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and it included specializations including Arabic language, English language, business administration, accounting, law, mathematics, and computer science. The university began accepting students in the year (1994).
The university has expanded academically until the number of departments in it has now reached (17) departments in the bachelor’s program, and (3) departments in the master’s program. In recent years, the university has worked to attract the largest possible number of Jordanian and expatriate students. In an effort to achieve a direct contribution to the growth of Jordanian society and the Arab communities neighboring the Kingdom. Since 2012, the university has turned to postgraduate programmes. In an effort to cover a wider segment of society, and to provide it with more distinguished and qualified competencies and the ability to deal with the needs of the labor market, the Master of Mathematics was created, then the Master of Law, then the Master of Accounting.
In the future, other master’s programs will be developed out of the university’s desire to fulfill the hopes of students who are keen to continue their education at the mother university to complete their academic career that they began with their aspirations and horizons.
The university includes six colleges:
1) College of Law, which includes:
- Department of Law.
2) The College of Administrative and Financial Sciences includes:
- Accounting Department
- Department of Business Administration
- Marketing Department
- Department of Entrepreneurship
- Department of Tourism Management
- Department of Management Information Systems
- Department of Accounting Information Systems
- Department of Banking and Financial Sciences
- Department of e-Marketing and Social Media.
3) College of Arts and Arts, which includes:
- Department of Arabic Language and Literature
- Department of English Language and Literature
- University Requirements Department.
4) College of Science and Information Technology includes:
- Department of Mathematics
- Department of Computer Science
- Department of Artificial Intelligence
- Cyber Security Department
- Department of Computer Information Systems
5) Faculty of Educational Sciences, which includes:
- Classroom Teacher Section
- Department of Special Education
- Department of Psychological and Educational Counseling.
6) Faculty of Nursing, which includes:
- Nursing Department
The university raised the slogan of excellence in creativity, and promoted achievement and excellence by achieving many achievements in various academic, sports and social scientific fields.
The Deanship of Student Affairs was established at the university in early 1995, which is the students’ home and tent that addresses their problems and issues and works to refine their personalities through curricular and extracurricular programs and activities such as trips, visits and the revival of national and religious events.
The university established a club for Arab students, to give them privacy that enables them to practice their activities and hobbies, thus forming a model for one homeland on Jordanian soil. The university was pleased with several visits to Arab cultural attachés from sister countries: Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iraq, Palestine, Sultanate of Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Somalia, Eritrea, Syria, United Arab Emirates, Sudan, Libya, Algeria, and others.
The university also established the university studio and allocated a spacious hall equipped with all the artistic supplies for students and artists from the local community. And an office of the King Abdullah Fund for Career Guidance. In the interest of university officials, a medical clinic has been established equipped with all available means.
The university acquires a large fleet of buses equipped with all amenities and safety to secure students’ transportation and facilitate their transportation to and from the university.
The university also paid great attention to laboratories, as it equipped computer laboratories with the latest equipment, and provided a language laboratory equipped with the latest effective technologies, in addition to teaching aids laboratories.
The university pays special attention to the Department of Public Relations and Media, which conveys a bright image of the university in all media and personal means.
In order to serve our students, the university has provided them with health insurance services, comfortable restaurants so that they can eat and drink in their spare time at reasonable prices, and has provided an office for selling books and providing various student services.
The university paid special attention to sports activities, as it established a multi-purpose indoor sports hall equipped with the latest equipment and devices, in addition to sports fields and stands, there is a football, handball and volleyball field, an amphitheater that can accommodate (4000) students, and gyms for tennis, chess and billiards.
One of the important landmarks at the university is the library, which contains 60,000 books in various disciplines, more than 103 Arab periodicals and 106 foreign periodicals, and includes an Internet laboratory and participates in a number of electronic magazines to secure information and knowledge for its visitors who follow all new research and modern studies. The university also pays special attention to scientific research by activating the role of university professors, teachers and students, and urges them to carry out studies that benefit them, the university and the local community and address many problems and research many issues and challenges. The university publishes the Irbid Journal for Research and Studies, which attracts many researchers from around the Arab world and the world, and thirteen volumes have been published.
The university’s strategy focuses on several axes, including the scientific construction of the student, improving the natural environment of the university, developing all elements of the infrastructure so that the university becomes an attractive environment for students, whether from Jordan or abroad, and contributes locally and regionally to enriching all those who affect it with knowledge and science, and actively participating in everything that serves social and humanitarian issues, providing sources of technological and non-technological knowledge, developing new specializations needed by the local, Arab and international market, and paying attention to incentives that will promote and deepen the values of belonging. for the university and activate the capabilities of employees.
