Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Rami Abdel Rahim, President of Petra University, the Faculty of Law at the university organized a symposium for deans of law faculties in Jordanian universities, under the title (Ways to Develop Legal Education in Law Faculties). Dr. Muhammad Al-Andali, Dean of the Faculty of Law, participated in it from Irbid Private University.
During the symposium sessions, the following topics were discussed: (The impact of the new Lawyers Training Institute on the future of legal education in law schools, the impact of the new high school system on the future of legal education in law schools, in addition to modern methods in legal education and artificial intelligence and its impact on legal education). The symposium was divided into two sessions. The first session addressed the impact of the Lawyers Training Institute and the high school system on the future of legal education in law schools. The second session addressed modern methods and the impact of artificial intelligence on legal education.
After discussing the reality of legal education in Jordanian universities, the deans of the faculties agreed that legal education suffers from many challenges that lead to a decline in the level of its graduates, which can be summarized as follows: the difference in the study plans for the Bachelor of Laws programs in the faculties of law in Jordanian universities, and the need for these plans to be continuously reviewed in line with the developments that keep pace with higher education, including the use of digital technology, especially with regard to procedural materials that Jordanian courts have begun to implement electronic procedures, the low minimum acceptance rates in the field of law, and the decline in the levels of students who enroll in the programs offered by these faculties; including the weakness of some students in the Arabic language and others in international languages such as English, which the new high school system will increase this challenge due to the absence of the Advanced English Language subject in the field of Sharia and Law as a mandatory subject at the twelfth grade level, and the high number of students enrolled in the programs offered by law faculties, whether at the undergraduate or postgraduate levels, compared to the number of professors; Including the high number of students in one department, which makes it difficult to link legal education to the future practical reality of students, and the emergence of some negative effects of full and integrated e-learning as a type of education introduced by the e-learning integration system in higher education institutions, whether in terms of delivering information to students, dividing grades in a way that leads to reducing the importance of the final exam, and the continued use of traditional teaching methods by some professors in an era in which teaching and work methods have changed with the introduction of digital systems and the shift from rote learning to interactive learning, which requires raising the capabilities of faculty members in line with the developments that keep pace with higher education, including the use of digital technology, and the weakness of scientific production of some faculty members, especially in light of the obligation of faculty members to publish in non-Arab databases, and the failure to actually link scientific production with the needs of society and achieve the goals of sustainable development, and students resorting to illegal methods in preparing theses and research required of them, which affects the level of theses, dissertations and research submitted.
